Triple-R DOT & SAE Compliant LED Driving Lights & Lightbars
What Does DOT / SAE Compliant Mean?
The Department of Transportation (DOT) establishes standards and regulations for nearly all vehicle components intended for legal use on public roads, including LED driving lights, headlights, tail lights, tires, and bumpers. For an LED driving light to achieve DOT compliance, it must adhere to stringent government standards, specifications, and undergo rigorous testing. This ensures that the light is safe for public road use, fulfills its intended function, and provides adequate illumination. Specifications considered by the DOT for forward lighting include beam width, height, and intensity. Being DOT compliant signifies that the lighting meets the requirements outlined in section 108 of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), which govern all automotive lighting, signaling, and reflective devices.
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is a global organization of over 138,000 engineers that develops technical standards and recommended practices for vehicle component design, construction, and characteristics. Although SAE standards represent high-quality benchmarks, they do not carry legal authority. Consequently, an SAE compliant LED driving light does not automatically qualify it for legal use on public roads; it simply indicates that the product meets the high-quality standards set by SAE.

Do Triple-R Offer Any DOT / SAE Compliant Lights?
As our operations and presence continue to grow throughout the USA, we are committed to meeting the needs of the US market. Naturally, ensuring we offer products that are DOT and SAE compliant has become a priority for Triple-R. To achieve this, we have recently subjected a range of our lights to DOT regulation testing and evaluated their compliance with SAE build guidelines. From this, we are delighted to announce that the following lights are compliant with DOT/SAE Auxiliary High Beam Regulations - SAE DOT Y 22:
- ST4 Evolution (ST4-B)
- LR-750 Elite (LR4-EL-B) - Low Output Mode Only
- Sentinel 7" (0S7-US-STD-SM) - Low Output Mode Only
- Sentinel 7" Elite (0S7-US-ELITE-PL-SM) - Low Output Mode Only
What is Low Output Mode?
The LR-750 Elite and Sentinel 7" / Sentinel 7” Elite feature dual-output technology. Operating at 100% the light represents the very best output and optimized light distribution for off-road use. Reducing the light output, through removal of a 'Boost Cap' fixed to the reverse of the light, allows the light to operate in DOT compliant mode for use on public highways, dependent on state-specific laws. While these products are DOT compliant LED lights, it remains crucial for our customers to understand and comply with the specific state laws regarding DOT compliance when fitting high beam auxiliary lighting. State regulations can vary and just because a product meets DOT standards does not automatically mean it is fully road legal in all states. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their use of auxiliary lighting adheres to the regulations and requirements of their particular state.
